One hundred and three years later, Einstein has been proven right.
“It’s
taken more than a century, but Einstein’s celebrated formula e=mc2 has
finally been corroborated, thanks to a heroic computational effort by
French, German and Hungarian physicists.
A brainpower consortium led by Laurent Lellouch of France’s Centre for
Theoretical Physics, using some of the world’s mightiest supercomputers, have set down the calculations for estimating the mass of
protons and neutrons, the particles at the nucleus of atoms.”
So many times, in regards to ministry, we are told to have faith in
the seeds that we plant. Each and every time we come in contact with
people, each time we show the love of Christ, each time that we dare to
take a public step on God’s foundation and not our own, we are planting
a seed.
I remember being in Hong Kong with CTI Music Ministries. While we were there we put on 77 concerts in 28 days. On
average there were about 3-4 a day. In the amount of time we were
there, we ministered to over 30,000 people. Those numbers sometimes
distracted, but always intimidated me.
I remember myself and the 6 others that I served with really struggling with feeling like we were doing anything
other than playing 4-5 songs, talking for even fewer minutes, packing
up and leaving.
We were constantly reminding ourselves and each other to trust and
have faith in the work that we did, even if we could never see what
came of it, and it was a constant uphill battle to stay reminded of
that.
With numbers in the thousands, opportunities in the dozens, it
doesn’t take long at all to be in over your head. I don’t think that
going to Hong Kong on missions with Cti is the only place that this
happens. I think in realistic reflection, we encounter this frightening
reality daily.
I think of pastors of small churches, who are trusting God with what
they have, even if it’s not much. I think of pastors of large churches,
who are responsible for thousands. I think of those involved in
missions, counseling, rehab, or any kind of discipleship and teaching.
I think of how each and every one of us, intentionally or not, are
sowing some kind of seed in this world with every word, action, and
thought. Not only do I think of the necessity to come face to face with
the gravity of them, but that we will never be able to handle and take
care of each and every thing.
I think of Einstein, who was devoted to his incredible and ground
breaking science, but never got to see his theories proven. He died
with the knowledge that e probably equals mc2, never getting to see the
seeds that he planted grow and flourish.
I pray that we can trust, that we can truly know what it means to
have faith in God’s stewardship of the work that we are too small to
see.
What are some things that you wish you could see the result of the
seeds that you planted?
Have you been lucky enough to see it?
Thanks for planting
